Bob Bell's 300 pound Jewfish

300lb Jewfish.jpg (29926 bytes)
Note fishermen's legs at top of picture... too big to step over!

In the past two years, many left over Mullet were fed this monster.  On the way from the fishing holes, in a river less than 40 feet wide, many of our fishermen could only speculate as to what was lurking in the somewhat cloudy waters of the little river.   Our guides figured it was a good place to try a left over bait or two... but as soon as the bait went out, it was one big jerk and crank to be followed by the all familiar snapping sound of 60 pound test.  It would be over in less than 15 seconds and go on for two years... that is until Bob Bell wandered by.  We hear another monster has already claimed this hole!  Will the saga continue for another two years???!!!

On the way to the record, Robin had to deal with other problems taking her bait... nice problem to have!  Robin had many serious hookups... Fred's comment to me that "many of the fish in those rivers are just plain too big!"  Those big fish will take you for a ride for sure... you've got to be good to land them.  Left is Fred unhooking Tarpon.  Right is our celebrity... that's not a bad looking snook!  Since no one else could touch a rod while Robin was going for the record, she got to catch all the fish!

Note to Fred & Robin... All of us at Action Belize appreciate the commitment you made in setting this record.  The official records will not show the unusual and less than desirable weather conditions that made this catch even more challenging.  Many, I'm sure, would have thrown in the towel; but not once did I hear you complain about anything!  In the spirit of true sportsmanship, you hung right in there when it counted and made it happen on the last day, just a couple hours before your trip was to end!  We are extremely privileged to have worked with such professionals... you are welcome in our camp anytime!
